Process
Step 1. Explore at least 3 different online sources to learn about tasks people know how to do.
What does how-to mean? How-to information shows or tells HOW to do something. People know how to do a lot of different things.
Think about these questions as you are exploring:
What do the how-to projects include?
Are the how-to projects easy to follow and understand?
You will look at 3 or more websites with information about how-to projects.
Choose from the following:
How to make a Borax snowflake
How to video: Kids in the Kitchen
How to make make paper
How to make smores
How to feed a horse
How to draw a rose
How to measure with a graduated cylinder
How to make French Toast
How to shelve books

Step 2. List 3 things you know how to do.
After you have explored the online sources for information and examples, think about what you already have knowledge about. What do YOU know how to do? Think of at least 3 things you know how to do right now. Try to come up with new ideas that you did not see during Step 1. You will add to our class list in WorkFlowy.
*Note: We have previously used WorkFlowy to make lists and keep track of ideas in class. For a quick refresher, watch this short video about what you can do with WorkFlowy to organize ideas and make lists.

Step 3. Choose one thing from your list. Use an online graphic organizer for planning.
Now it is time to decide what you want to make your video about.
Think about these questions to help you decide.
Which one is your favorite?
Do you know all the steps to complete this activity?
Is this an activity you can do at school?

Now that you have decided what your video will be about and Mrs. Galbreath
approved your idea, you will need to start planning. When working on a big
project like this, it is important to organize all your ideas in one place. We
will use an online graphic organizer, Creately, to help us organize our information.
*Note: We have already learned about how to use Creately to organize our ideas in class. For a quick refresher on how to use Creately, watch this video.

Now that you have organized your ideas, you are ready to start writing the script for your video. You script should include the title, location/setting, materials/supplies, sequential steps, and any extra information (everything from Step 3). You will be typing your script in Google Drive.
*Note: Students have previously used Google Drive to type and save documents. For a quick refresher on using Google Drive, watch this video.

Using your graphic organizer, you are now ready to type your script. It is a good idea to make different sections for your document to include the different categories from your graphic organizer. When you are writing, consider what the audience will be thinking when they read your work. Do you include all the necessary supplies and materials? Is it easy to understand? Are your steps clear and easy to follow?

Step 6. Use script to create a VoiceThread video to share knowledge with others.
Hooray! You have done a great job planning your video.
Now, your video will need images. You will be limited to a MAX of 10 images. Will your video include photos, drawings, clipart or a combination?
*Note: Students have previously used various kinds of images for online projects. They know how to upload photos from a camera and save them to a folder with their name. They also know how to save an image in Paint. We have also practiced searching for images in Google, as well as how to save them to the computer.
All images that will be used for your video should be saved on the computer in your folder with your first and last name, like this: SaraGalbreath. If you need help finding, making, or saving pictures for your video, please let Mrs. Galbreath know.
Now you are ready to start making your video in VoiceThread!
